starry map waiting to be read with a different mythology
little bear rumbling into warrior’s belt
mountain range of emerald meadows and avalanche-prone valleys
atom buzzing as molecules of worry work elliptical orbits
freshly sharpened pencil sketching toward digital layers of dreams
limb of a cocktail tree flowering unexpected possibilities
blue-headed wrasse patiently navigating kelp forests
finely tuned scale measuring invisible weights of joy and disappointment
deep diving roots below prairie grasses bending in the wind
Merie Kirby grew up in California and now lives in North Dakota. She teaches at the University of North Dakota. She is the author of two chapbooks, The Dog Runs On and The Thumbelina Poems.
